Digital and paper working together

The video above demonstrates the digital world in which our young students are engaging. I believe that young children need to be exposed to  digital books as well as electonic books. I would hate to see picture books become a component of history lessons! Electronic books which can be displayed through the SMARTboard are ideal for class use as all students can clearly see the pages.  However, teachers can use a document camera to explore picture books with the entire class. The pages can be projected onto the SMARTboard and teachers/students can use the pen tools to highlight parts of the text and records ideas/notes.

Students can then explore the book individually or in small groups in their hands, actually turning pages made of paper rather than using the swipe action. There is, and should be a place in the classroom for both mediums.
