My name is Joanne Villis and I am classroom teacher who has who has 16 years experience with interactive whiteboards/LCD TVs and have facilitated the integration of technology in education at my current school, St Aloysius College. I currently teach Year 7-11 Digital Technologies, coordinate Reception -Year 10 Digital technologies and I am SEQTA Integrator Facilitator.
I have experience working with Reception to Year 2 students with iPads, Year 3 to year 12 students using Microsoft Surface Pros and a strong understanding of coding and its applications for game development. I am proficient and have classroom experience using Office 365 and applications including: Yammer, Class Notebook (OneNote) , Forms, SharePoint and OneDrive.
I believe, that current teachers need to provide an interactive and engaging curriculum to cater for today’s digital learners. As teachers, we need to look at our students, seek their advice and ask ourselves, how can we deliver an education to meet their needs?

Hi Heather,
Embedded YouTube videos will remain blocked at school if YouTube is blocked at school. At my school it is blocked for students, not teachers, so I show the students the YouTube clips on the smartboard and then students complete the additional tasks/blogging on their own computers. However, when students access the edublog at home, they can of course view the YouTube clips without having to leave the blog.
Jo
By the way, I like your class blog
Hi Joanne…Karl Easton here from Kellyville Ridge Public. Full time teacher M – F with Lego robotics and coding across yr 2 to 6.
Also administrator on Yammer Robotics and Makerspace groups. Came across your Blog when looking for microbit info and pricing…vs Circuit Playground Express.
Have you used a CP Express? I have one..but am about to order a Microbit. Have put the question of difference to some suppliers also. Waiting on reply.
Like your Blog…keep up the good work.
PS…do you run a Makerspace by chance? I do a ‘Spotlight’ online interview bi-monthly on Yammer with teachers and their Makerspace journey.
Thanks…Karl Easton
Hi Karl,
I’ve only used CP Express at a conference. From what I saw, you can do more with CP Express but it is more complicated than Microbits. Microbits are also cheaper, remember if you get them buy the Microbit Pro which comes with a battery pack. They don’t sell the battery packs separately. I’m happy with my the Microbits so far. Next year I am going to purchase and experiment with the Microbit add on kits.
