Title: Teaching Digital Citizenship (online research, referencing and blogging)
Date :Friday 15th March 2013
Suitable for Year 3-7 teachers (nothing to do with SMART boards)

Descriptor:
Digital citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use. With the growth of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and 1:1 initiatives in schools there is a need to talk about responsible use of technology. Throughout this session participants will explore ways of teaching effective online research, referencing and blogging etiquette. The term blog is short for web log, a “log” of diary-like entries published on a web site. Blogging is easy, almost instant, publishing of content to a website. Never blogged before? Never mind.

I will help all participants create their own free website with online resources for students on how to research effectively on the Internet, how to and why they should reference their resources and of course, pages for students to ‘blog’ in order to learn collaboratively online. Participants are invited to bring a research assignment which they currently use with their students (ie an author or artist study, a science or SOSE assignment) or one which they intend to use (only needs to be in Word format). Participants will leave with their own website to use with their students.

Cost: $150 per person per day (includes morning tea/lunch)
Location: Athelstone, South Australia
To Register and arrange payment contact Jo Villis via email at jvillis@inter-tech.com.au .All participants will receive a training and development certificate to acknowledge their hours of training.
